BuzzCopper

Coming soon, BuzzCopper is an Asian Hornet detector. BuzzCopper uses AI to listen for the buzzing sounds of various insects including the Asian Hornet above a bait station and then takes a series of photos. These are screened through Google Vision (aka Google Lens) to check if an Asian Hornet has been spotted. When a WiFi connection can be established the pictures are then forwarded to your email address, to mapping sites such as CATCH and to the appropriate national authority in the local jurisdiction (e.g. NBU in UK, Jersey Government, University of Georgia in USA, subject to their approvals)

It runs off a rechargeable battery, which lasts up to 30 continuous hours or can be powered through a USB cable. Sleeping through the night allows battery life to be extended to around three days

The first prototypes are currently being field tested in my garden, although we have no Asian Hornets here and plenty of rain.

Limited quantities should be available for volunteer field testing in late summer 2024.

As with many IT projects it's the last 20% of the work that takes 80% of the time :-(

All IP will be open-sourced so you can build your own if you have the necessary expertise. Otherwise, they will be available from here and other outlets (tba) at an attractive price.
